Annual capture and recapture rates of a number of bird species obtained over an eighteen year period in
an area cleared for urbanization, have shown changes in populations which are considered related to
development in the area. The increase in the number of honeyeaters in particular, implies they have benef1tted
from the proliferation of nectar-producing native plants in some residential gardens. Other discrete changes 1n
the avian population are also described.
